A Life Worth Living Poem

A Life Worth Living – Poem by Lisa Scuderi-Burkimsher

Melissa is happy reading a good book
rather than watching television.
Hours spent on the couch, feet up, sipping tea,
a favorite pastime.

She closes the book and looks out the window.
Birds are nesting and chirping a soothing tune.

The mother bird teaches her young to fly.
The bird flaps its wings unsteadily but makes it to the sky.

The sky is clear and vibrant blue.
A sight never to forget.

A brand-new year, in warm sunny Los Angeles.
Melissa reflects on the past year and wonders
what she could’ve done differently.

She returns to her book, intending to enjoy it.
There’s one thing she’d like to change but can’t.

Cancer.
