I have spent my 33 years as a coach and trainer teaching how to prepare yourself, your workplace, and your community to overcome bias and hate. My keynotes and workshops are a legacy of my father, a World War II US military intelligence officer assigned to interrogate Nazi prisoners of war (To see his letters, check out my book, The Liberator’s Daughter) and my own work dealing with the extremist movements. (My book, When Hate Groups March Down Main Street, co-authored with Marc Brenman, is a textbook for counteracting hate.)

Hate is on the rise and Hate crimes jumped by nearly 20 % in major U.S. cities in 2017, after increasing nationally by 5 % in 2016, according to police data compiled by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University at San Bernardino.
Counteracting Hate is a growing concern on campuses, in the workplace, and in our communities. I specialize in strategies that help individuals and groups work together to create a positive environment. The 3-step sequential process builds skills that counteract Hate. The process is especially relevant given the presence of Hate groups online, their ability to influence cultural norms, and their impact of diverse communities that are targeted by these groups.

Step #1 – Develop Awareness: Recognize the emerging trends in hate groups and their historical origins. Understand the recruitment strategies of hate groups and their appeal today, especially in their online activities.
Step #2 – Expand Cultural Sensitivity: Increase knowledge of the diverse targets of Hate. Develop the Emotional Intelligence that enables you to understand the unconscious biases that lead to devaluing their cultural contributions and value.
Step #3 – Solidify Competence: Learn how to combine Awareness & Sensitivity for individualized and organizational decision making in counteracting hate. Develop an action plan to develop programs, form coalitions, and maximize the No-Hate Process.
Deborah Levine is an award-winning author of 14 books, Editor-in-Chief of the American Diversity Report, and host of the ADR Podcasts. She has 33 years experience in diversity training and Thought Leadership coaching. Her experience dealing with hate groups began after the Oklahoma City Bombing as the community Liaison for Tulsa’s Jewish Federation.
