I search the prayers someone left scattered like magic beans

A forest of excuses darkens the sky.
Somewhere in there a boy cries

slipping on platitudes littering his path.
Sighs grow wild by the side of the road.

He’s been lost for days
in a language not his own.

Everything he says ends in ellipses.

I offer lullabies
spent too soon. Wilted now.

I offered lullabies
spent too soon. Wilted then.

Everything he said ended in ellipses.

He was lost for days
in a language not his own.

Sighs grew wild by the side of the road.

He slipped on platitudes that littered his path.
Somewhere in there a boy cried.

A forest of excuses darkened the sky.

I searched the prayers.
They scattered like magic beans.
