DR. SHELTON GOODE is Chief Executive Officer of Icarus Consulting, a veteran-owned firm that helps companies build a diverse workforce and create an inclusive workplace. He partners with clients to develop strategies to attract, develop, and retain highly skilled talent from an emerging diverse workforce and enhance the engagement, knowledge, and skill of current employees. Dr. Goode has over 20 years of HR and D&I experience including executive positions in global companies. He is a strategic yet results-oriented leader whose expertise includes Talent Management, Change Management, and Executive Coaching. He was the first person awarded the Roosevelt Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion. Forbes Magazine selected him as one of the country’s Top 10 D&I Trailblazers. Dr. Goode received his Doctorate from the University of Alabama and his Master’s Degree from Troy University. He is currently an adjunct professor with Duke University’s Corporate Education department. Cathy also served as VP and GM of Sunrise Technologies, a publicly traded developer of lasers in the ophthalmology and dental industry. Finding New Ways to Serve
Employees, Customers and Communities

Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the effects of the coronavirus on organizations and ways to mitigate the cultural and economic damage they face. To assess the current landscape, we conducted an informal survey of roughly 80 organizations from across metro Atlanta in partnership with HR Executive Roundtable and the HR Leadership Forum. The sample includes organizations from a variety of industry groups. While it is not representative of the U.S., Georgia, or metro Atlanta economy as a whole, it does capture the intense distress being experienced by mid-size, tech, and retail-oriented companies — a snapshot of the crisis, collected recently. We wanted to understand how organizations were dealing with the disruption and what they planned to do once their companies decided to re-open. We were particularly interested in their human resource and leadership resilience and the challenges of bringing employees back to work.
